What Will Healthcare Look Like In a Trump Administration?

posted on Thursday, November 17, 2016

It’s the million dollar question. What is going to happen to Obamacare now that Donald Trump has been elected as President in 2017? We know it will be different, but how different? It will likely be some time before medical practices will know what changes will be implemented.

In the meantime, you can see just a few of the major healthcare issues highlighted during the Trump campaign to get a feel for what might lie ahead.

  • Affordable Care Act (ACA) – Promised to repeal.
  • MACRA (payment reform for Medicare physician fees) – Delay implementation or phase in payment programs.
  • The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation – Implement payment reform initiatives in healthcare.
  • Medicaid-specific funding and expansion – Give states more freedom to explore innovative solutions to offer care to low-income patients.
  • Health Insurance Policies - Proposes to allow insurance to be brought across state lines, provide individual tax deductions for premium payments, and use HSAs for health care expenses.

It’s a waiting game. But one thing is for sure – change is constant in healthcare.
