The Welcome to Medicare Preventive Visit

posted on Thursday, November 3, 2016

Primary care practices have an awesome opportunity to engage their aging patients in proactive health care measures. And the reason for this opportunity:

More than 10,000 baby boomers turn 65 EVERY DAY.

Primary care practices who accept Medicare patients, should reach out to patients about the "Welcome to Medicare Preventive Visit." The Welcome to Medicare Preventive Visit is a free, one-time visit for patients who are in their first 12 months of Medicare coverage. The visit is not a Medicare Annual Wellness Visit, but rather an opportunity for the provider to evaluate a patient's medical and family history, gain a baseline health assessment and discuss preventive screenings. So the following year when patients come for their Medicare Annual Wellness Visit, they are prepared to develop a prevention plan, schedule preventive screenings and more.

So how can practices communicate Welcome to Medicare information? Some practices choose to do direct mailing campaigns to their patients nearing the age of 65. Others have Welcome to Medicare Patient Packets and brochures in their office. POS can help create these materials. If you would like more information about creating Welcome to Medicare patient collateral contact POS.
