Good Design Tells a Story

Believe it or not well designed communications can make your practice more profitable. Practices who invest in their brand and are consistent throughout all of their communications are known to make a better first impression with patients. Why? Good design makes you look reputable and trustworthy. Patients will stay with your practice, and refer new patients, providing you a consistent revenue stream.

Marketers would say good design reinforces your brand and makes your brand memorable. A designer once summed it up by saying ..."brand design is like a person, you first judge on outward appearance and as you get to know them, you discover all of their other little parts. Design is the same way."

Why does good design matter?

Good design helps you communicate. Do you have something complicated you need to explain or show to a patient? Maybe it’s a procedure, or a diagnosis, or a treatment. A printed piece with strong visuals can help you tell that story. Good design brings the content and imagery together to tell a story.

Good design brings your communications to life. Design isn’t all about how something looks, it’s about how it works. So functionality plays a big part in a good design. For example, you have several pieces of pre-op instructions to give a patient, but you need to package it and present it in such a way that patients will use it. Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, once said, “Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.”

Good design is contagious. Your practice gets noticed and your patients share it and before you know it, you are showing up on public spaces like Yelp reviews, Facebook and other social media sites.

Good design motivates people to take action. A strong call to action on a printed piece, designed well, can help you influence patient behavior.

Good design reinforces your brand, your values, your goals and your relationships with your patients.
